What I Wish I Knew Before My First Trip

Traveling for the first time is super exciting, but it can also feel a little scary. When I took my first trip as a student, I didn’t know what to expect. I made a few mistakes, but I also learned a lot. Here are some things I wish someone had told me before I went.

Don’t Overpack.

I packed way too much. I thought I needed five outfits for a two-day trip! In the end, I only wore a few things. Pack light, bring clothes you can mix and match, and always leave space for souvenirs.

Plan Ahead, But Be Flexible.

I made a full schedule like, every hour was planned. But sometimes buses were late or places were closed. It’s good to have a plan, but you also need to go with the flow. Some of the best parts of my trip were unplanned.

Keep Important Stuff Close.

Your passport, ID, and money should always be in a safe spot. I now use a small travel pouch that I wear under my jacket. I never leave my phone or wallet in open bags or pockets.

Ask Locals for Tips.

Don’t be afraid to talk to people who live there. I found the best food and coolest places just by asking someone at a coffee shop. Locals always know the real gems.

Take Photos, But Live in the Moment.

Pictures are great, but don’t forget to enjoy the moment with your own eyes too. Put your phone down once in a while you’ll remember more than just what’s on your screen.
